Champions raise £250k

Amateur cyclists joined champion riders including Connor Swift, Lizzie Deignan MBE, Fred Wright and Pfeiffer Georgi, to raise £250,000 for children’s charity Action Medical Research at last week’s Champions of CycleSport dinner.

Velocity was lucky enough to join over 600 amateur cyclists and guests, aloing with host of pro stars at last week’s annual Champions of CycleSport dinner, to raise £250,000 through raffles and auctions for children’s charity Action Medical Research.

Young riders AJ August, Zoe Backstedt, Cat Ferguson, Niamh Fisher-Black and Jack Rootkin-Gray joined legends Sean Kelly, Sean Yates, Yanto Barker, Nico Roche, Joanna Rowsell MBE OLY and Mark Beaumont BEM at the black tie event in Battersea, London. Endurance athlete Linda Blakely (about whom more later – watch this space) entertained the audience with a training session on stage. The auction included signed jerseys, bikes, concerts and holidays. Bidding for some items spiralled – eventually three tables agreed to donate £5,000 each for a day of riding in Majorca with Sean Kelly.

The money went to Action Medical Research, the charity funding research to tackle diseases that devastate the lives of children.
